Haggai 1.1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of YHWH by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabal the son of Shealtial, governor of Yudah, and unto Yoshua the son of Yehozadak, the high priest, saying, 1.2 Thus saith YHWH of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the house of YHWH should be built. 1.3 And the word of YHWH came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 1.4 It is time for you to sit in your houses, shut up, while this house lies in ruins. 1.5 And now thus saith YHWH of hosts; Set your heart upon your ways. 1.6 You have sown much, but you have eaten little. The full have not enough to drink, and the hired hand has no clothing, and he has no bread. The drunkard is drunk with a broken bundle. 1.7 Thus saith YHWH of hosts; Set your heart upon your ways. 1.8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house, and I will dwell in it, and I will be glorified, saith YHWH. 1.9 Turn to the many, and behold, there are few; and ye shall bring the house, and I will blow upon it. for thus saith YHWH of hosts; because my house is a waste, and ye shall run every man to his house. 1.10 Therefore the heavens have withheld the dew from you, and the earth has withheld its produce. 1.11 And I will call for a sword upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon beast, and upon all that the hand can reach. 1.12 Then Zerubbabal the son of Shealtial, and Yoshua the son of Yehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of YHWH their Alhym, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as YHWH their Alhym had sent them; and the people feared before YHWH. 1.13 Then Haggai, the angel of YHWH, spoke to the people in the service of YHWH, saying, “I am with you,” says YHWH. 1.14 And YHWH stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabal the son of Shealtial, governor of Yudah, and the spirit of Yoshua the son of Yehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did the work in the house of YHWH of hosts their Alhym. 1.15 On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king. 2.1 On the twenty-first day of the month, the word of YHWH came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 2.2 Speak now to Zerubbabal the son of Shealtial, governor of Yudah, and to Yoshua the son of Yehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying, 2.3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And what do you see now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes? 2.4 Now therefore be strong, saith YHWH, Zerubbabal; and be strong, Yoshua the son of Yehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all the people of the land, saith YHWH, and do it. for I am with you, saith YHWH of hosts. 2.5 The word which I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my spirit remaineth among you. fear not. 2.6 For thus saith YHWH of hosts; Yet a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the wilderness. 2.7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come. and I will fill this house with glory, saith YHWH of hosts. 2.8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith YHWH of hosts. 2.9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former, saith YHWH of hosts. and in this place will I give peace, saith YHWH of hosts. 2.10 In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of YHWH unto Haggai the prophet, saying, 2.11 Thus saith YHWH of hosts; Ask now the priests of the law, saying, 2.12 If a man carries holy flesh in the fold of his garment, and touches with his fold the bread, or the stew, or the wine, or the oil, or any holy food, then the priests will answer and say, No. 2.13 And Haggai said, If an unclean soul touch any of these, he shall be unclean. And the priests answered and said, He shall be unclean. 2.14 Then Haggai answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith YHWH; so is every work of their hands, and that which they offer there is unclean. 2.15 Now therefore, please set your hearts on this day and upward, before one stone is left upon another in the temple of YHWH. 2.16 From the beginning he came to a heap of twenty, and there were ten. he came to the vineyard to uncover fifty fruitful ones, and there were twenty. 2.17 I will strike you with blight, mildew, and hail, in all the work of your hands; and you are not with me, says YHWH. 2.18 Consider now, I pray you, from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day unto the ninth day of the month, from the day that the foundation of the house of YHWH was laid, consider ye. 2.19 While the seed is still in the barn, even the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate tree, and the olive tree have not borne fruit from this day forward. 2.20 And the word of YHWH came a second time unto Haggai on the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, 2.21 He said to Zerubbabal, the governor of Yudah, “I will shake the heavens and the earth.” 2.22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and will destroy the strong of the kingdoms of the nations, and will overthrow the chariot and its charioteers; and the horses and their chariots shall go down, every one by the sword of his brother. 2.23 In that day, saith YHWH of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabal the son of Shealtial, my servant, saith YHWH, and will set thee as a signet. for I have chosen thee, saith YHWH of hosts.
