Second Kings 1.1 And Moab transgressed against Israal after the death of Ahab. 1.2 And Ahaziah fell through the lattice on his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick. and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover of this sickness. 1.3 And the angel of YHVH said unto Aliyah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is no Alhym in Israal? Go ye to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron. 1.4 Therefore thus saith YHVH, The bed whereon thou art gone up, thou shalt not come down from it, but thou shalt surely die. and he went up unto it. 1.5 And the angels returned unto him, and he said unto them, What is this that ye do? 1.6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, return unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith YHVH, Is it not because there is no Alhym in Israal, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore the rod that thou hast gone up there shall not come down from it; but thou shalt surely die. 1.7 And he said unto them, What is the matter with the man that came up to meet you, and spake these words unto you? 1.8 And they said unto him, A man with hair of head, and a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said unto her, He is the Tishbite. 1.9 And he sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty, and he went up unto him. and, behold, he sat on the top of the mountain. and the man of Alhym spake unto him, saying, 1.10 And Aliyah answered and said unto the captain of fifty, If I be a man of Alhym, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. and let fire come down from heaven, and consume him and his fifty. 1.11 And he returned, and sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. and the man of Alhym answered and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come down quickly. 1.12 And he answered her, and said unto them, If I be a man of Alhym, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy five. And let the fire of Alhym come down from heaven, and consume him and his five. 1.13 And he returned, and sent a captain of fifty with his thirty and five. and he went up. and the third captain of fifty came, and fell on his knees before Aliyah, and besought him, and said unto him, Man of Alhym, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. 1.14 Behold, fire came down from heaven, and consumed the two captains of the first fifties, and their fifties. and now my life is precious in thy sight. 1.15 And the angel of YHVH said unto Aliyah, Take him down; be not afraid of him. And he arose, and took him down to the king. 1.16 And he spake unto him, saying, Thus saith YHVH; Because thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no Alhym in Israal to inquire of his word? Therefore the rod which thou hast gone up there shall not come down from it, but thou shalt surely die. 1.17 And he died according to the word of YHVH which Aliyah had spoken. and Yehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Yehoram the son of Yehoshaphat king of Yudah. for he had no son. 1.18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israal? 2.1 And it came to pass, when YHVH took up Aliyah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Aliyah and Alisha went from Gilgal. 2.2 And Aliyah said unto Alisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for YHVH hath sent me as far as Bethel. And Alisha said, As YHVH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. and they went down to Bethel. 2.3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came out to Alisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that YHVH hath taken away thy master from over thee this day? And he said, I know it also. beware. 2.4 And Aliyah said unto him, Alisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for YHVH hath sent me to Yericho. And he said, As YHVH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they came to Yericho. 2.5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Yericho came to Alisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that YHVH hath taken away thy master from over thee this day? And he said, I know it also. beware. 2.6 And Aliyah said unto him, Tarry here, I pray thee; for YHVH hath sent me from Jordan. And he said, As YHVH liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they both went their way. 2.7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood afar off. and they both stood by Jordan. 2.8 And Aliyah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, and they both went over by the sword. 2.9 And it came to pass, as they were going, that Aliyah said unto Alisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken from thee. And Alisha said, Let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit upon me. 2.10 And he said, Thou hast asked hard. if thou seest me, a lesson from thee, it shall be so unto thee; and if not, it shall not be so. 2.11 And it came to pass, as they went on and talked, that, behold, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, parted them both asunder. and Aliyah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 2.12 And Alisha saw him, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israal, and his horsemen. and he saw him no more. and he took hold of his clothes, and rent them in two pieces. 2.13 And he took up the mantle of Aliyah that fell from him, and went and stood by the bank of Jordan. 2.14 And he took the mantle of Aliyah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is YHVH Alhym of Aliyah? And he smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither. and Alisha passed over. 2.15 And when the sons of the prophets that were at Yericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Aliyah resteth upon Alisha. and they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him. 2.16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, I pray thee, and seek thy master. lest the Spirit of YHVH be lifted up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send. 2.17 And they urged him until he said, Send. And he sent fifty men, and they searched three days, and found him not. 2.18 And they returned unto him. and he tarried at Yericho, and said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not? 2.19 And the men of the city said unto Alisha, Behold now, the habitation of the city is good, as my lord seeth. but the water is bad, and the land is barren. 2.20 And he said, Bring me a new bowl, and put salt therein, and bring it unto him. 2.21 And he went out unto the fountain of the waters, and cast salt there, and said, Thus saith YHVH, I have healed these waters; there shall be no more death nor pestilence from thence. 2.22 And the waters were abated unto this day, according to the word of Alisha which he spake. 2.23 And he went up from thence to Bethel. and as he went up by the way, there came out young men out of the city, and met him, and said unto him, Go up, go up. 2.24 And he turned back after him, and saw them, and cursed them in the name of YHVH. and there came out two she-bears out of the wood, and rent forty and two of them. 2.25 And he went from thence to Mount Carmel, and from thence returned to Samaria. 3.1 Yehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israal in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Yehoshaphat king of Yudah, and reigned twelve years. 3.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH; only not like his father, nor like his mother. for he removed the image of Baal, which his father had made. 3.3 Only he clung to the sins of Yeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israal sin, and did not depart from them. 3.4 And Mesha king of Moab was a traitor, and returned to the king of Israal an hundred thousand bullocks, and an hundred thousand rams of the wool. 3.5 And it came to pass, as Ahab had done, that the king of Moab trespassed against the king of Israal. 3.6 And king Yehoram went out that day from Samaria, and mustered all Israal. 3.7 And he went and sent to Yehoshaphat king of Yudah, saying, The king of Moab hath trespassed against me. go thou with me against Moab to battle. And he said, I will go up as I am, as thou art, as thy people, as thy people, as my horses, as thy horses. 3.8 And he said, Is this the way that we shall go up? And he said, The way of the wilderness of Edom. 3.9 So the king of Israal, and the king of Yudah, and the king of Edom, went, and they journeyed seven days' journey. and there was no water for the camp, nor for the cattle that followed them. 3.10 And the king of Israal said, Ah, that YHVH hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab. 3.11 And Yehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of YHVH, that we may inquire of YHVH of him? And one of the king of Israal's servants answered and said, Here is Alisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hand of Aliyah. 3.12 And Yehoshaphat said, It is the word of YHVH. And the king of Israal, and Yehoshaphat, and the king of Edom, went down unto him. 3.13 And Alisha said unto the king of Israal, What have I to do with thee? Go to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israal said unto him, Alhym hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab. 3.14 And Alisha said, As YHVH of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, were it not for the presence of Yehoshaphat king of Yudah, I would not look upon thee, nor see thee. 3.15 Now therefore bring me a musician, and let him be as the musician that playeth, and the hand of YHVH be upon him. 3.16 And he said, Thus saith YHVH, Make this river very high. 3.17 For thus saith YHVH, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that brook shall be filled with water, and ye shall drink, ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. 3.18 And it was light in the sight of YHVH, and he delivered Moab into your hand. 3.19 And you shall strike every fortified city, and every city of choice, and you shall cut down every good tree, and you shall stop all the springs of water, and you shall stone every good fiald with stones. 3.20 And it came to pass in the morning, about the time of the oblation, that, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. 3.21 And all Moab heard that the kings were come up to fight against them; and they cried out from every quarter, and stood on the border. 3.22 And they rose up in the morning, and the sun rose upon the water. and Moab saw the water as red as blood. 3.23 And they said, This is blood, the sword hath devoured the kings, and they have slain one another. and now is the spoil of Moab. 3.24 And they came to the camp of Israal, and Israal arose, and smote Moab, and they fled before them, and turned again, and smote Moab. 3.25 And they shall destroy the cities, and every good piece of land shall they cast away, every man for his son, and fill it; and every fountain of water shall they stop, and every good tree shall they cut down, until the stones thereof be left in the wall of the forest, and the branches thereof shall be broken up, and the branches thereof shall be cut down. 3.26 And the king of Moab saw that the battle was too strong for him, and he took with him seven hundred men, who drew their swords to strike the king of Edom; but they could not. 3.27 And he took his eldest son, that should reign in his stead, and offered him up to the heathen. and there was great wrath against Israal, and they departed from him, and returned to their own land. 4.1 Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried unto Alisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant feared YHVH. and the woman is come to take my two sons to be his servants. 4.2 And Alisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? Tell me what is in the house. And she said, Thy handmaid hath nothing in the house, save that I may anoint thee with oil. 4.3 And he said, Go, borrow vessels from abroad, of all thy neighbours; empty vessels, take none. 4.4 And thou shalt go in, and shut the door upon thee, and upon thy sons, and pour out upon all these vessels, and thou shalt carry away the full. 4.5 And she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons. and they brought in vessels unto her, and she poured out. 4.6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet another vessel. and he said unto her, There is none more. And the oil stood still. 4.7 And she came and told the man of Alhym, and he said, Go, sell the oil, and give it to your wives and your children, and live in peace. 4.8 And it came to pass on that day, that Alisha passed by to Shunem, and there was a great woman there, and she strengthened herself against him to eat bread. and it came to pass, as often as he passed by, that he would not eat bread there. 4.9 And she said unto the woman, Behold now, I know that a holy man of Alhym hath passed by us continually. 4.10 Let us make a small walled chamber, and let us set there for him a table, and a chair, and a lamp; and it shall be, when he cometh unto us, that he shall turn in thither. 4.11 And it came to pass in the day, that he came thither, and went up into the upper chamber, and lay there. 4.12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And he called her, and she stood before him. 4.13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast troubled us with all this trouble. what shall I do unto thee? is there any need to speak unto the king, or to the captain of the host? and she shall say, I dwell among my people. 4.14 And he said, What shall we do for her? And Gehazi said, But she hath no son, and is an old woman. 4.15 And he said, Call her. And she called, and stood in the door. 4.16 And he said, At this time, behold, I have conceived a son, and thou hast said unto my lord, O man of Alhym, lie not unto thine handmaid. 4.17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that set time, which Alisha had spoken unto her. 4.18 And the child grew up, and it came to pass in the day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. 4.19 And he said unto his father, My father, my father. and he said unto the lad, Carry him to his mother. 4.20 And they carried him, and brought him to his mother. and he sat on her knees until noon, and died. 4.21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of Alhym, and shut the door upon him, and went out. 4.22 And she called unto the woman, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may go to the man of Alhym, and come again. 4.23 And he said, Wherefore should I go to him today, neither a new moon nor a sabbath? And she said, Peace. 4.24 And she saddled the donkey, and said to the girl, Drive and go, do not hold back for me, for I have told you. 4.25 And she went and came to the man of Alhym to Mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of Alhym saw her, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, this Shunammite. 4.26 Now run to meet her and say to her, "Peace be with you, peace be with your husband, peace be with the child." And she said, "Peace be with you." 4.27 And she came to the man of Alhym to the hill, and strengthened her feet. and Gehazi came near to thrust her away, and said, O man of Alhym, let her alone; for her soul is vexed in her, and YHVH hath hid it from me, and hath not told me. 4.28 And she said, Have I borrowed a son from my master? said I not, thou shalt not deceive me. 4.29 And Gehazi said, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way. if thou find any man, bless us not. and if any man bless thee, answer him not. and lay my staff upon the face of the lad. 4.30 And she said, As the boy lives, and as your soul lives, shall I leave you? And he arose and followed her. 4.31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the pillow upon the face of the child. but there was no voice, nor any heed. and he sat down to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not risen. 4.32 And Alisha came into the house, and, behold, the child was dead, lying upon his bed. 4.33 And he went in, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed unto YHVH. 4.34 And he went up and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands. and he stretched himself upon him, and the flesh of the child waxed warm. 4.35 And he returned, and walked in the house one way and another way, and went up, and stretched himself upon him, and smote the child seven times. and the child opened his eyes. 4.36 And he called to Gehazi, and said, Call this woman. And he called, and she came to him, and he said, Is it not thy son? 4.37 And she came and fell at his feet, and worshipped the earth. and she took up her son, and went out. 4.38 And Alisha returned to Gilgal, and the famine was in the land, and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him. And he said to his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets. 4.39 And one went out into the fiald to gather gourds, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof a cluster of gourds his garment full. and he came and smote into the pot of stew. for they knew not. 4.40 And they poured it out for the people to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the stew, that they cried out, saying, The man of Alhym is dead in the pot; and they could not eat. 4.41 And he said, Take flour, and cast it into the pot, and said, Pour it out for the people; and they did eat, and there was nothing bad in the pot. 4.42 And there came a man from Baal-Shilesh, and brought the man of Alhym bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of shea butter, and a shekel of salt. and he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat. 4.43 And his servant said, What shall I set before a hundred men? And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat. for thus saith YHVH, Eat, and have plenty. 4.44 And he set it before them, and they ate, and had more, according to the word of YHVH. 5.1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man in the sight of his master, and lifted up his countenance. for by him YHVH had given deliverance to Syria. and the man was a mighty man of valour, and a leper. 5.2 And the Arameans went out in bands, and dwelt in the land of Israal. and a little damsel stood before Naaman's wife. 5.3 And she said unto her mistress, Let my lord's leprosy be before the prophet that is in Samaria; then he will recover him of his leprosy. 5.4 And he came and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus spake the damsel that is of the land of Israal. 5.5 And the king of Syria said, Go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israal. And he went, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand talents of gold, and ten changes of raiment. 5.6 And the letter came to the king of Israal, saying, Now therefore, as soon as this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent to you Naaman my servant, and he has recovered him from his leprosy. 5.7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israal had read the book, that he rent his clothes, and said, I am Alhym, to kill and to make alive. for this man sent unto me to gather a man of his leprosy. but know, I pray thee, and see that he is a fig unto me. 5.8 And it came to pass, when Alisha the man of Alhym heard that the king of Israal had rent his clothes, that he sent unto the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? Come, I pray thee, unto me, and know that there is a prophet in Israal. 5.9 So Naaman came with his horse and with his chariot, and stood at the door of Alisha's house. 5.10 And Alisha sent an angel unto him, saying, Go, wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall be restored unto thee, and thou shalt be clean. 5.11 Then Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I said unto him, Go forth, and stand, and call on the name of YHVH your Alhym, and stretch out your hand over the place, and cleanse the leper. 5.12 Is it not better for me to build and to fill the rivers of Damascus with water than all the waters of Israal? Shall I not wash in them, and be purified? And turn and go into Hamath? 5.13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, the prophet hath spoken a great thing unto thee. wilt thou not do it? and though he saith unto thee, Wash, and be clean? 5.14 And he went down and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the word of the man of Alhym. and his flesh came again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. 5.15 And he returned to the man of Alhym, he and all his company, and came and stood before him, and said, Behold now, I know that there is no Alhym in all the earth, but in Israal. and now, I pray thee, take a blessing from thy servant. 5.16 And he said, As YHVH liveth, before whom I stand, I will take it. And he urged him to take it, but he refused. 5.17 And Naaman said, Let there not be given to thy servant, I pray thee, even two mules' burden of earth. for thy servant will henceforth make no burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto YHVH. 5.18 For this thing YHVH forgive your servant. When my lord comes to Beth-rimmon to bow down there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down at Beth-rimmon, when I bow down at Beth-rimmon, may YHVH, I pray thee, forgive your servant for this thing. 5.19 And he said unto him, Go in peace, and departed from him a little way. 5.20 And Gehazi, the servant of Alisha the man of Alhym, said, Behold, my lord hath taken away this Naaman the Aramean, and hast taken from his hand that which he brought. as YHVH liveth, if I had run after him, I would have taken nothing from him. 5.21 And Gehazi pursued after Naaman, and saw Naaman running after him, and he fell down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Peace be unto you. 5.22 And he said, Peace be unto you, my lord hath sent me, saying, Behold now there are come unto me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. give them, I pray thee, a pound of silver, and two changes of raiment. 5.23 And Naaman said, Take a staff, and break it in pieces, and make two staffs of silver, and two changes of raiment, and give them unto two of his servants, and they bear them before him. 5.24 And he came to the cloud, and took it from their hand, and entered into the house, and sent the men away, and they departed. 5.25 And he came and stood before his master. And Alisha said unto him, Where is Gehazi? And he said, Has not thy servant gone hither and thither? 5.26 And he said unto him, Not so, my heart went out as a man turneth from his chariot to meet thee. it is time to take money, and to take raiment, and olives, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants. 5.27 And the leprosy of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and to thy seed for ever. and he went out from before him leprous as snow. 6.1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Alisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell is too strait for thee. 6.2 Let us go to the Jordan, and take from there each of us a beam, and let us make for ourselves a place there to dwell there. And he said, Go. 6.3 And the one said, Let thy servants go, I pray thee. And he said, I will go. 6.4 And he went with them, and they came to Jordan, and cut down trees. 6.5 And one of them, having cast down the beam and the iron, fell into the water, and cried out, saying, Ah, Lord! It is Saul. 6.6 And the man of Alhym said, Where did it fall? And he shewed him the place, and he cut down a tree, and cast it there, and the iron melted. 6.7 And he said, Lift up thyself. And he put forth his hand, and took it. 6.8 Now the king of Aram was at war with Israal, and he consulted with his servants, saying, "To such and such a place shall I go, and I will go with thee." 6.9 And the man of Alhym sent unto the king of Israal, saying, Guard the way beyond this place. for there is a garrison of the Syrians there. 6.10 And the king of Israal sent to the place which the man of Alhym had told him, and warned him, and kept him there not once nor twice. 6.11 And the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing, and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not tell me which of us shall go to the king of Israal? 6.12 And one of his servants said, My lord the king, is not Alisha the prophet that is in Israal, that he telleth the king of Israal the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber? 6.13 And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And he told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dathan. 6.14 And he sent thither horses, and chariots, and a great army. and they came by night, and compassed the city about. 6.15 And the servant of the man of Alhym arose early, and went out, and, behold, an army compassed the city, both horses and chariots. and his servant said unto him, Alas, my lord, what shall we do? 6.16 And he said, Fear not. for they that be with us are more than they. 6.17 And Alisha prayed, and said, YHVH, open, I pray thee, his eyes, that he may see. And YHVH opened the eyes of the lad, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Alisha. 6.18 And they went down unto him. and Alisha prayed unto YHVH, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with scourges. And they smote them with scourges, according to the word of Alisha. 6.19 And Alisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city. follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he went with them from Marona. 6.20 And it came to pass, when they were come to Samaria, that Alisha said, YHVH, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And YHVH opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. 6.21 And the king of Israal said unto Alisha, I will smite them, I will smite my father. 6.22 And he said, Thou shalt not smite him that is in the house with thy sword, and thou shalt smite with thy bow. set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go unto their master. 6.23 And he dug a large pit for them, and they ate and drank, and he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of the Syrians came no more into the land of Israal. 6.24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. 6.25 And there was a great famine in Samaria, and behold, they besieged it, until a donkey's head was sold for thirty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a hin of barley for five shekels of silver. 6.26 And as the king of Israal passed by, a woman cried unto him, saying, Help, my lord the king. 6.27 And he said unto Yosiah, YHVH save thee, whence shall I save thee from the threshingfloor, or from the winepress? 6.28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she said, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. 6.29 And we boiled my son, and we ate him. And I said unto her the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him. and she hid her son. 6.30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes. and he passed by the house, and the people looked, and, behold, sackcloth was upon his flesh from the house. 6.31 And he said, So do Alhym to me, and so to Yoseph, if the head of Alisha the son of Shaphat stand upon him this day. 6.32 Now Alisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And he sent a man before him before the angel came to him. And he said to the elders, Have you seen that this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? See, when the angel comes, shut the door and press it against him. Is it not the sound of his master's feet behind him? 6.33 While he was still speaking with them, the angel came down to him and said, “Behold, this evil comes from YHVH. What more can I ask from YHVH?” 7.1 And Alisha said, Hear the word of YHVH; Thus saith YHVH; About this time to morrow a shekel shall be sold for a shekel, and three shekels for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria. 7.2 Then the king's officer who was leaning on his hand answered the man of Alhym and said, "Behold, YHVH has made a multitude in heaven, and this thing is done." And he said, "The lame man has seen it with his own eyes, and he will not eat from it." 7.3 And there were four men lepers at the entering in of the gate, and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? 7.4 If we say, "We will enter the city," the famine will be in the city and we will die there; or if we sit here and die, now go and fall into the camp of the Syrians; if they live, we will live; if we die, we will die." 7.5 And they rose up in the morning to go unto the camp of the Syrians. and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there. 7.6 And YHVH made the camp of the Syrians hear the sound of chariots, and the sound of horses, the sound of a great army. and they said every man to his brother, Behold, the king of Israal hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us. 7.7 And they arose and fled in a tumult, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, the camp as it was, and fled for their lives. 7.8 And these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, and entered into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid them, and sat down, and came into another tent, and carried thence, and went and hid them. 7.9 And they said one to another, We will not do so; this day is a day of meat, and we will wait and see until the morning light, and we will find iniquity. and now go, and we will prophesy, and tell the king's house. 7.10 And they came and called to the gate of the city, and said unto them, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, nor the voice of man; but the horse tied, and the ass tied, and the tents as they were. 7.11 And the gatekeepers called, and said, The king's house is within. 7.12 And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will tell you what the Syrians have done unto us. for they know that we are hungry, and are gone out of the camp to burn incense in the fiald, saying, Because they came out of the city, and were taken alive, and brought into the city. 7.13 And one of his servants answered and said, Take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in her, according to all the multitude of Israal that are left in her, according to all the multitude of Israal that are consumed. and she was sent forth, and we saw. 7.14 And they took two chariots, and the king sent after the host of Syria, saying, Go and see. 7.15 And they went after them unto Jordan. and, behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the angels returned, and told the king. 7.16 And the people went out, and spoiled the camp of the Syrians. and a shekel of salt was sold for a shekel, and three shekels of shekels for a shekel, according to the word of YHVH. 7.17 And the king set the third man, whose hand was leaning on the gate, and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of Alhym had said, which the king had come down to him. 7.18 And it came to pass, as the man of Alhym had spoken unto the king, saying, Three measures of gold for a shekel, and a measure of salt for a shekel, shall be at this time to morrow in the gate of Samaria. 7.19 And the third man answered the man of Alhym, and said, Behold, YHVH hath made a multitude in heaven, and it shall be so. And he said, Behold, thou hast seen it with thine own eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof. 7.20 And it came to pass, that the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died. 8.1 And Alisha said unto the woman whose son he had restored to life, Arise, and go with me, and with thy household, and with thy little ones, wheresoever thou sojournest. for YHVH hath called for a famine, and it shall come upon the land seven years. 8.2 And the woman arose, and did according to the saying of the man of Alhym. and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. 8.3 And it came to pass at the end of seven years, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines, and went out to cry unto the king, both in her house, and in her fiald. 8.4 And the king spake unto Gehazi the servant of the man of Alhym, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Alisha hath done. 8.5 And it came to pass, when he told the king how he had restored the dead to life, that, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life cried unto the king for her house and for her fiald. And Gehazi said, My lord the king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Alisha restored to life. 8.6 And the king asked the woman, and she told him. And the king gave her a eunuch, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the fiald, from the day that she left the land until now. 8.7 And Alisha came to Damascus, and Benhadad king of Aram was sick. and it was told him, saying, The man of Alhym came hither. 8.8 And the king said unto Hazaal, Take a present in thine hand, and go to meet the man of Alhym, and inquire of YHVH of him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? 8.9 And Hazaal went to meet him, and took a present in his hand, even forty camels' burden of all the good things of Damascus, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me unto thee, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? 8.10 And Alisha said unto him, Go, I say, I will not live; but YHVH will show me that I shall surely die. 8.11 And he set his face to the ground, and wept. 8.12 And Hazaal said, Why doth my lord weep? And he said, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israal. thou shalt burn their strong holds with fire, and shalt slay their chosen with the sword, and shalt dash their young men in pieces, and shalt smite their young men with the edge of the sword. 8.13 And Hazaal said, What is thy servant, a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Alisha said, YHVH show me that thou art king over Syria. 8.14 And he departed from Alisha, and came to his master, and said unto him, What said Alisha unto thee? And he said, Tell me, I pray thee, live. 8.15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the foreskin, and dipped it in water, and lay down upon his face, and died. and Hazaal reigned in his stead. 8.16 And in the fifth year of Yoram the son of Ahab king of Israal, and of Yehoshaphat king of Yudah, Yehoram the son of Yehoshaphat king of Yudah reigned. 8.17 Thirty-two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Yerusalom. 8.18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israal, as did the house of Ahab. for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife. and he did evil in the sight of YHVH. 8.19 And YHVH would not destroy Yudah for the sake of David his servant, as he promised him to give him a crown to his sons for ever. 8.20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Yudah, and they made a king over them. 8.21 And Yoram passed over at a young age, and all the chariots with him. and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots. and the people fled into their tents. 8.22 And Edom rebelled against Yudah unto this day. then shall Lebanon rebel at that time. 8.23 Now the rest of the acts of Yoram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 8.24 And Yoram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. 8.25 In the twelfth year of Yoram the son of Ahab king of Israal, Ahaziah the son of Yehoram king of Yudah reigned. 8.26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Yerusalom. and his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israal. 8.27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of YHVH, as the house of Ahab had done. for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab. 8.28 And Yoram the son of Ahab went to war against Hazaal king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead. and the Syrians smote Yoram. 8.29 And king Yoram returned to be healed in Yezreel of the plagues which the Syrians had smitten him in Ramah, when he fought against Hazaal king of Aram. and Ahaziah the son of Yehoram king of Yudah went down to see Yoram the son of Ahab in Yezreel, because he was sick. 9.1 And Alisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this cruse of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead. 9.2 And when you came thither, behold, Yehu the son of Yehoshaphat the son of Nimshi was there. and you came and set him up from among his brethren, and carried him into a chamber. 9.3 Then you took the flask of oil and poured it on his head and said, “Thus says YHVH. I anoint you king over Israal. Then you opened the door and ran, and did not wait. 9.4 And the young man the prophet went to Ramath Gilead. 9.5 And he came, and, behold, the captains of the host were sitting. And he said, Speak unto me, O captain. And Yehu said, To which of us? And the captain said unto thee. 9.6 And he arose, and came into his house, and poured the oil upon his head, and said unto him, Thus saith YHVH Alhym of Israal, I have anointed thee to be king over the people of YHVH, over Israal. 9.7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of YHVH, at the hand of Yezebel. 9.8 And the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and he that is left in Israal. 9.9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Yeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahiyah. 9.10 And the dogs shall eat Yezebel in the portion of Yezreel, and there shall be no grave. and he shall open the door, and flee. 9.11 And Yehu went out to the servants of his master, and said unto him, Peace, why came this madman unto thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his conversation. 9.12 And they said, He hath told us a lie, and he said thus and thus he spake unto me, saying, Thus saith YHVH, I have anointed thee to be king over Israal. 9.13 And they hasted, and took every man his garment, and laid it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, and said, Yehu king! 9.14 Then Yehu the son of Yehoshaphat the son of Nimshi sent to Yoram, and Yoram was then in Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israal, because of Hazaal king of Syria. 9.15 And king Yehoram returned to Yezreel to be healed of the plagues which the Syrians had smitten him, when he fought against Hazaal king of Aram. And Yehu said, If any of you have any soul, let him not go out of the city, to go to Gid in Yezreel. 9.16 And Yehu rode and went to Yezreel. for Yoram lay there. and Ahaziah king of Yudah went down to see Yoram. 9.17 And Zappa stood on the tower in Yezreel, and saw the chariot of Yehu as he came, and said, I see a chariot. And Yehoram said, Take a chariot, and send to meet them, and say, Peace. 9.18 And the charioteer went to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Peace be unto you. And Yehu said, What is your peace? Turn back after me, and tell the multitude, saying, The angel came even unto them, and returned not. 9.19 And he sent out a second chariot of horses, and came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Peace. And Yehu said, What is it to thee? and peace? turn again after me. 9.20 And the flood told them, saying, He came even unto them, and returned not. and his doing is like the doing of Yehu the son of Nimshi. for he will do madly. 9.21 And Yoram said, Make haste, and make haste his chariot. And Yoram king of Israal and Ahaziah king of Yudah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Yehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Yezreelite. 9.22 And it came to pass, when Yehoram saw Yehu, that he said, Peace. And Yehu said, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of Yezebel thy mother, and her many witchcrafts, 9.23 Then Yehoram turned his hands and fled, and said to Ahaziah, Ahaziah has deceived you. 9.24 And Yehu drew his bow with his hand, and smote Yehoram among his men, and half his heart came out, and he sank down in his chariot. 9.25 And he said unto Bedeker, Cast three stones, and cast them into the portion of the fiald of Naboth the Yezreelite. because thou and I remember the chariots of Ahab his father. and YHVH brought this burden upon him. 9.26 If I had not seen the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesternight, saith YHVH, and had not avenged thee in this portion, saith YHVH. and now, behold, I have cast him into his portion, according to the word of YHVH. 9.27 And Ahaziah king of Yudah saw him, and fled by the way of the garden house. and Yehu pursued after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. and he fled from Megog, and died there. 9.28 And his servants carried him to Yerusalom, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David. 9.29 And in the eleventh year of Yoram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Yudah. 9.30 And Yehu came to Yezreel. and Yezebel heard of it, and she put on her veil, and adorned her head, and looked out of the window. 9.31 And Yehu came in at the gate, and said, Peace be unto Zimri, the slayer of his master. 9.32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is with me? And two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 9.33 And he said, Throw down his staff; and he threw it, and his blood fell upon the wall, and upon the horses, and they trampled it. 9.34 And he came and ate and drank, and said, Go, I pray thee, and bury this cursed woman. for she is a king's daughter. 9.35 And they went to the tomb, and found nothing in it but the shroud, and the feet, and the palms of the hands. 9.36 And they returned, and told him. and he said, This is the word of YHVH, which he spake by his servant Aliyah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Yezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Yezebel. 9.37 And the carcase of Yezebel shall be as blood upon the face of the fiald in the portion of Yezreel, that they shall not say, This is Yezebel. 10.1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Yehu wrote letters and sent from Samaria to the elders of Yezreel and to Ahab's wise men, saying, 10.2 And now, when this book comes to you, and you are the sons of your master, and you have chariots and horses, and a fortified city and weapons, 10.3 And you saw good and upright among your master's sons, and you set them on his father's throne, and you fought for your master's house. 10.4 And they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, the two kings stood not before him. and how shall we stand? 10.5 And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, and the elders, and the rulers, sent unto Yehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt say unto us. we will not forsake thee. do that which is good in thine eyes. 10.6 And he wrote them a second letter, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take the heads of the men of your master's sons, and come to me to Yezreel at this time to morrow, and the king's sons seventy men, the elders of the city, and bring them up. 10.7 And when the letter came to them, they took the king's sons, and slew seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him in Yezreel. 10.8 And the messenger came and told him, saying, Bring the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Lay them by two guards at the entrance of the gate until the morning. 10.9 And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said unto all the people, Ye are righteous. behold, I conspired against my lord, and slew him. and who smote all these? 10.10 Know therefore that nothing shall fall to the earth of the word of YHVH, which YHVH spake concerning the house of Ahab. but YHVH hath done that which he spake by his servant Aliyah. 10.11 And Yehu smote all that remained of the house of Ahab in Yezreel, and all his great men, and his wise men, and his priests, until he left him none remaining. 10.12 And he arose, and came, and went to Samaria, which is the house of the wicked, by the way. 10.13 And Yehu found the brothers of Ahaziah king of Yudah, and said, Who are you? And they said, We are the brothers of Ahaziah, and we go down in peace to the king's sons and the queen's sons. 10.14 And he said, Slay the living. And he slew the living. And he cast forty and two men into the pit of Beth-eked; and he left not one of them. 10.15 And he departed thence, and found Yehonadab the son of Rebekah to meet him, and blessed him, and said unto him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thine heart? And Yehonadab said, Is it so? Give me thy hand. And he gave him his hand, and they brought him up into the chariot with him. 10.16 And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for YHVH. And they rode with him in his chariot. 10.17 And he came to Samaria, and smote all that remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed them, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake to Aliyah. 10.18 Then Yehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Yehu will serve us much. 10.19 Now all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests, have called to me, saying, "Let no one come near, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever comes near shall not live." And Yehu did this in Acacia, that he might destroy the servants of Baal. 10.20 And Yehu said, Consecrate yourselves unto Baal. And they called 10.21 And Yehu sent throughout all Israal, and all the worshippers of Baal came. there was not a man left that came not. and they came into the house of Baal, and the house of Baal was filled from mouth to mouth. 10.22 And he said to the one who was over the wardrobe, "Bring out garments for all the servants of Baal." And the garments were brought out for them. 10.23 Then Yehu and Yehonadab the son of Rebekah went to the house of Baal and said to the servants of Baal, “Search and see if there are any servants of YHVH here with you, but only the servants of Baal.” 10.24 And they came to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. and Yehu set eighty men for him without, and said, He that escapeth of the men whom I bring into your hands, his life shall be for his life. 10.25 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Yehu said unto the runners and to the three, Come, smite every man with the edge of the sword, and let him go out, and smite him with the edge of the sword. And the runners and the three cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal. 10.26 And they brought out the pillars of the house of Baal, and burned it. 10.27 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a dunghill unto this day. 10.28 And Yehu destroyed Baal out of Israal. 10.29 Only the sins of Yeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israal sin, Yehu did not put away from them, the golden calves that were in Bethel and that were in Dan. 10.30 And YHVH said unto Yehu, Because thou hast done well in doing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thou shalt have a fourth son to sit on the throne of Israal. 10.31 And Yehu kept not the law of YHVH Alhym of Israal with all his heart. he departed not from the sins of Yeroboam, which made Israal to sin. 10.32 In those days YHVH began to cut off the border of Israal, and Hazaal smote him throughout all the coasts of Israal. 10.33 From the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, the Reubenites, and the Manassehites, from Ar, which is by the river Arnon, and Gilead, and Bashan. 10.34 Now the rest of the acts of Yehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israal? 10.35 And Yehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. and Yehoahaz his son reigned in his stead. 10.36 And the days that Yehu reigned over Israal were twenty and eight years in Samaria. 11.1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom. 11.2 But Yehosheba, the daughter of King Yehoram, the sister of Ahaziah, took Yoash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons who were about to kill him, and his nurse, into the bedchamber, and hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed. 11.3 And it came to pass, that thou wast hid in the house of YHVH six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land. 11.4 And in the seventh year Yehoiada sent and took the captains of hundreds, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the captains of hundreds, and brought them unto him in the house of YHVH, and made a covenant with them, and sware unto them in the house of YHVH, and shewed them the king's son. 11.5 And he fasted, saying, This is the thing that you shall do. a third of you shall come in on the Sabbath, and keep the watch of the king's house. 11.6 And a third at the Sur Gate, and a third at the Gate behind the Runners, and you shall keep the watch of the house of YHVH. 11.7 And both hands are upon you, all that go forth on the sabbath, and keep the charge of the house of YHVH unto the king. 11.8 And you shall surround the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that cometh into the streets shall be put to death. and you shall be with the king when he goeth out and when he cometh in. 11.9 And the captains of hundreds did according to all that Yehoiada the priest commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath, and came to Yehoiada the priest. 11.10 And the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the spears and the shialds that had been King David's, which were in the house of YHVH. 11.11 And the runners stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house unto the left side of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king round about. 11.12 And he brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown and the testimony, and made him king, and anointed him, and smote him, and said, Long live the king. 11.13 And Athaliah heard the voice of the people crying, and came to the people into the house of YHVH. 11.14 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood by the pillar, according to custom, and the princes and the trumpeters before the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with the trumpets. and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, `Kesa, Kesa!' 11.15 Then Yehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds, which were over the host, and said unto them, Bring her forth out of the house into the street, and bring after her him that is slain with the sword. for the priest said unto the house of YHVH, Behold, the house of YHVH is in ruins. 11.16 And they laid hands on her, and she went by the way of the horse entrance into the king's house, and died there. 11.17 And Yehoiada made a covenant between YHVH and the king and the people, that they should be YHVH's people, and between the king and the people. 11.18 And all the people of the land came to the house of Baal, and brake down his altars and his images, and brake them in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. and the priest set the house of YHVH over them. 11.19 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the captains, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of YHVH, and came by the way of the runners' gate into the king's house. and he sat upon the throne of the kings. 11.20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. and they slew Athaliah with the sword of the king's house. 12.1 Yehoash was seven years old when he became king. 12.2 In the seventh year of Yehu, Yehoash became king, and he reigned forty years in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. 12.3 And Yehoash did that which was right in the sight of YHVH all his days, as Yehoiada the priest instructed him. 12.4 Only the high places were not taken away. the people no longer offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places. 12.5 And Yehoash said unto the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of YHVH, the money of every man, the money of the persons, even all the money that cometh into the heart of every man to bring into the house of YHVH. 12.6 The priests shall take for themselves each one of his goods, and they shall strengthen the house for everyone who is found to have a defect. 12.7 And it came to pass in the three and twentieth year of king Yehoash, that the priests had not strengthened the breaches of the house. 12.8 Then king Yehoash called for Yehoiada the priest, and for the priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? and now take not money of your friends, but ye shall be bound for the breaches of the house. 12.9 And the priests came to him, that he should not take money from the people, nor strengthen the walls of the house. 12.10 And Yehoiada the priest took a chest, and fastened it to the door thereof, and set it beside the altar, on the right hand when one cometh into the house of YHVH. and there the priests that kept the door put all the money that was brought into the house of YHVH. 12.11 And it came to pass, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest went up, and they counted and counted the money that was found in the house of YHVH. 12.12 And they delivered the money that was found into the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of YHVH, and gave it out to the carpenters and masons that did the work in the house of YHVH. 12.13 And to the fencers, and to the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to strengthen the walls of the house of YHVH, and for all that was to come forth for the house to strengthen it. 12.14 But the house of YHVH shall not make for the house of YHVH couches of silver, basins, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold or vessels of silver, of the money brought into the house of YHVH. 12.15 For they shall give to the workmen, and they shall strengthen the house of YHVH with it. 12.16 And they shall not reckon with the men who give the money by their hand to give to the workmen, for they do it by contract. 12.17 Guilt money and sin money shall not be brought into the house of YHVH; they shall be for the priests. 12.18 Then Hazaal king of Aram went up, and fought against Gath, and took it. and Hazaal set his face to go up to Yerusalom. 12.19 And Yehoash king of Yudah took all the dedicated things that Yehoshaphat, Yehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Yudah, had dedicated, and the dedicated things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of YHVH, and in the king's house, and sent to Hazaal king of Syria, and he came up against Yerusalom. 12.20 Now the rest of the acts of Yoash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 12.21 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Yoash the son of Melech, which went down to Sela. 12.22 And Yehozabad the son of Shemaiah, and Yehozabad the son of Shimeer, his servants, smote him, that he died, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David. and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead. 13.1 In the twenty-third year of Yoash the son of Ahaziah king of Yudah, Yehoahaz the son of Yehu reigned over Israal in Samaria seventeen years. 13.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, and walked in the sins of Yeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israal sin. he departed not therefrom. 13.3 And the anger of YHVH was hot against Israal, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazaal king of Aram, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazaal, all their days. 13.4 And Yehoahaz sought the face of YHVH, and YHVH heard him. for he saw the oppression of Israal, because the king of Syria oppressed them. 13.5 And YHVH gave Israal a savior, and they went out from under the hand of the Syrians. and the children of Israal dwelt in their tents, as before. 13.6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Yeroboam, which he made Israal to sin. and the asherah also remained in Samaria. 13.7 For he left to Yehoahaz not a people but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen. for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them as dust to dust. 13.8 Now the rest of the acts of Yehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israal? 13.9 And Yehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. and Yoash his son reigned in his stead. 13.10 In the thirty-seventh year of Yoash king of Yudah, Yehoash the son of Yehoahaz reigned over Israal in Samaria sixteen years. 13.11 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH. he departed not from all the sins of Yeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israal to sin, wherewith he walked. 13.12 Now the rest of the acts of Yoash, and all that he did, and his might, wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Yudah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israal? And he took him bow and arrows. 13.16 And he said unto the king of Israal, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon the bow. And Alisha put his hands upon the king's hands. 13.17 And he said, Open the window eastward. and he opened it. And Alisha said, Shoot, and shoot. And he said, An arrow of victory for YHVH, and an arrow of victory over Syria. and thou shalt smite Syria in the face of YHVH, until thou have consumed it. 13.18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them, and said unto the king of Israal, Smite the ground. and he smote three times, and stood still. 13.19 And the man of Alhym was wroth with him, and said, Smite five or six times. then thou smote Syria until thou hadst consumed it. but now thou shalt smite Syria three times. 13.20 And Alisha died, and they buried him. and the bands of Moab came into the land the following year. 13.21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they saw the band, and cast the man into the sepulchre of Alisha. and he went and touched the bones of Alisha, and he revived, and stood up on his feet. 13.22 And Hazaal king of Aram oppressed Israal all the days of Yehoahaz. 13.23 And YHVH was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and turned unto them for his covenant with Avraham, with Isaac, and with Yacob. and he destroyed them not, neither cast he them out of his sight, even unto this day. 13.24 And Hazaal king of Aram died, and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead. 13.25 And Yehoash the son of Yehoahaz returned, and took the cities out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazaal, which he had taken out of the hand of Yehoahaz his father in war. three times did Yoash smite him, and recovered the cities of Israal. 14.1 In the second year of Yoash the son of Yehoahaz king of Israal, Amaziah the son of Yoash king of Yudah reigned. 14.2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Yerusalom. Why then have you provoked evil, that you should fall, you and Yudah with you? 14.11 But Amaziah would not listen. So Yehoash king of Israal went up, and he and Amaziah king of Yudah looked each other in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Yudah. 14.12 And Yudah was defeated before Israal, and they fled every man to his tent. 14.13 And Yehoash king of Israal took Amaziah king of Yudah, the son of Yehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Bethshemesh. and they came to Yerusalom, and broke through the wall of Yerusalom from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits. 14.14 And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of YHVH, and in the treasures of the king's house, and the children of Belshazzar, and dwelt in Samaria. 14.15 Now the rest of the acts of Yehoash, which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Yudah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israal? He built the upper gate of the house of YHVH. 15.36 Now the rest of the acts of Yotham which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 15.37 In those days YHVH began to send Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah against Yudah. 15.38 And Yotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead. 16.1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Yotham king of Yudah reigned. 16.2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Yerusalom. But he did not do that which was right in the sight of YHVH his Alhym, like David his father. 16.3 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israal, and made his son also to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom YHVH cast out before the children of Israal. 16.4 And he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 16.5 Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israal came up to Yerusalom to war, and they besieged Ahaz, but they could not fight. 16.6 At that time Rezin king of Aram restored Alath to Aram, and drove out the Jews from Alath, and the Arameans came to Alath, and dwelt there unto this day. 16.7 And Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son. come up, and deliver me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israal, which rise up against me. 16.8 Then Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of YHVH, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it to the king of Assyria, saying, 16.9 And the king of Assyria heard of it, and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and took Kir, and Rezin, and slew him. 16.10 And king Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglathpileser king of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus. and king Ahaz sent to Uriyah the priest the pattern of the altar, and the pattern of all the workmanship thereof. 16.11 And Uriyah the priest built the altar according to all that king Ahaz had sent from Damascus. So Uriyah the priest made it until king Ahaz came from Damascus. 16.12 And the king came from Damascus, and the king saw the altar. and the king drew near unto the altar, and offered upon it. 16.13 And he burnt his burnt offering and his meat offering, and poured out his drink offering, and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings upon the altar. 16.14 And he brought the brazen altar that was before YHVH from the front of the house, between the altar and the house of YHVH, and put it on the side of the altar northward. 16.15 Then King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, the evening burnt offering, the king’s burnt offering, his burnt offering, the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their burnt offering, and their drink offerings. You shall sprinkle all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice on it. And the bronze altar shall be mine for the morning.” 16.16 And Uriah the priest did according to all that king Ahaz commanded. 16.17 Then King Ahaz cut off the frames of the altar and removed them, and he took down the laver and the sea from off the bronze oxen that were under it, and put them on a pavement of stones. 16.18 And the sabbath altar that they built in the house, and the king's outer entrance, he turned back the house of YHVH from before the king of Assyria. 16.19 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 16.20 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead. 17.1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Yudah, Hoshea the son of Alah began to reign in Samaria over Israal, and reigned nine years. 17.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH; yet not like the kings of Israal that were before him. 17.3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria, and Hoshea became his servant, and he offered him sacrifices. 17.4 And the king of Assyria found a conspiracy in Hoshea, because he had sent messengers to Sou king of Egypt, and had not brought a present to the king of Assyria year by year. therefore the king of Assyria took him, and bound him in prison. 17.5 And the king of Assyria went up throughout all the land, and came up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. 17.6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried Israal away to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and in Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. 17.7 And it came to pass, that the children of Israal sinned against YHVH their Alhym, which brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and feared other gods. 17.8 And they walked in the statutes of the heathen, which YHVH cast out before the children of Israal, and of the kings of Israal, which they had made. 17.9 And the children of Israal did evil against YHVH their Alhym, and built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen unto the fortified city. 17.10 And they set them up pillars and pillars on every high hill and under every green tree. 17.11 And there they burned incense in all the high places, as the nations did, whom YHVH carried away captives before them; and they did evil things, provoking YHVH to anger. 17.12 And they did the idols, of which YHVH said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. 17.13 And YHVH testified in Israal and in Yudah by all his prophets, every one of them, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent unto you by my servants the prophets. 17.14 But they did not listen, but hardened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in YHVH their Alhym. 17.15 And they abhorred his statutes, and his covenant which he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they walked after vanity, and were vain, after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom YHVH had commanded them that they should not do so. 17.16 And they forsook all the commandments of YHVH their Alhym, and made them a molten image, two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. 17.17 And they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and used enchantments, and used divination, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of YHVH, to provoke him to anger. 17.18 And YHVH was very angry with Israal, and he removed them from his presence; there was none left but the tribe of Yudah only. 17.19 Yudah also kept not the commandments of YHVH their Alhym, but walked in the statutes of Israal which they made. 17.20 And YHVH abhorred all the seed of Israal, and delivered them into the hand of the Philistines, until he had cast them out from his presence. 17.21 For Israal tore from the house of David, and they made Yeroboam the son of Nebat king. And Yeroboam drew Israal away from following YHVH, and they sinned a great sin. 17.22 And the children of Israal walked in all the sins of Yeroboam which he did; they departed not therefrom. 17.23 Until YHVH removed Israal out of his sight, as he had spoken by all his servants the prophets, and he removed Israal out of his land to Assyria unto this day. 17.24 And the king of Assyria came from Babylon, and from Meco, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and dwelt in the cities of Samaria against the children of Israal. and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof. 17.25 And it came to pass at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not YHVH. and YHVH sent lions among them, which killed them. 17.26 And they said to the king of Assyria, The nations which thou hast carried away captive, and dwellest in the cities of Samaria, know not the judgment of the Alhym of the land. therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, as though they knew not the judgment of the Alhym of the land. 17.27 And the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Bring thither one of the priests whom ye carried away captive thence. and they went and dwelt there, and he exalted the judgment of the god of the land. 17.28 Then one of the priests who had been carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and he taught them how they should fear YHVH. 17.29 And every nation made gods, and put them in the houses of the high places which the heathen had made, every nation in their cities where they dwelt. 17.30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima. 17.31 And the Egyptians made Nebahaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire for Adrammelech and Amalech. These are the Sepharvites. 17.32 And they feared YHVH, and made them priests of the high places, and made them in the house of the high places. 17.33 They feared YHVH, and served their Alhym, after the manner of the heathen, from whence they were carried away captive. 17.34 To this day they do after the former ordinances; they fear not YHVH, neither do they after their statutes, and after their judgments, and after the law, and after the commandment, which YHVH commanded the children of Yacob, whom he named Israal. 17.35 And YHVH made a covenant with them, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them. 17.36 But you shall fear YHVH, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall worship him and sacrifice to him. 17.37 And the statutes, and the judgments, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall keep to do for ever, and ye shall not fear other gods. 17.38 And the covenant which I have made with you, ye shall not forget, neither shall ye fear other gods. 17.39 But if you fear YHVH your Alhym, he will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies. 17.40 And they heard not, but did according to their first judgment. 17.41 And these nations shall fear YHVH, and their idols. and their children and their children's children shall serve them, as their fathers did, even unto this day. 18.1 And it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Alah king of Israal, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Yudah reigned. 18.2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Avi, the daughter of Zechariah. 18.3 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, according to all that David his father had done. 18.4 He removed the high places, broke the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah pole, and cut down the bronze serpent that Moses had made. For until those days the Israalites had burned incense to it. And he called it Bronze. 18.5 He trusted in YHVH Alhym of Israal. and after him there was none like him among all the kings of Yudah, nor that were before him. 18.6 And he clave unto YHVH, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which YHVH commanded Moses. 18.7 And YHVH was with him whithersoever he went, he prospered, and rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not. 18.8 He struck the Philistines as far as Gaza, and the borders thereof from the tower of Christians to the fortified city. 18.9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea the son of Alah king of Israal, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. 18.10 And it was taken at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israal, Samaria was taken. 18.11 And the king of Assyria carried Israal into exile to Assyria, and besieged Halah and Habor, the river of Gozan, and the cities of the Medes. 18.12 Because they hearkened not unto the voice of YHVH their Alhym, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of YHVH commanded, and would not hearken, nor do them. 18.13 And in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah came up Sennacherib king of Assyria against all the fenced cities of Yudah, and took them. 18.14 And Hezekiah king of Yudah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have sinned. return, I will bear that which thou shalt put upon me. And the king of Assyria laid upon Hezekiah king of Yudah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 18.15 And Hezekiah gave all the silver that was found in the house of YHVH, and in the treasuries of the king's house. 18.16 At that time Hezekiah cut off the doors of the house of YHVH, and the pillars which Hezekiah king of Yudah had covered, and gave them to the king of Assyria. 18.17 And the king of Assyria sent Tirthan, and Rabsaris, and Rabsika, from Lachish, with a great army, unto king Hezekiah at Yerusalom. and they went up, and came to Yerusalom. and they went up, and came, and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is by the fuller's fiald. 18.18 And they called unto the king. and there came out unto them Aliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoah the son of Asaph the recorder. 18.19 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say, I pray thee, to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest? 18.20 You have spoken only words of counsel and strength for war. Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me? 18.21 Now, behold, you trust in the support of this bruised reed, on Egypt, on which a man leans, and it comes with his hand, and it breaks. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 18.22 And if ye say unto me, We trust in YHVH our Alhym. is it not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said unto Yudah and Yerusalom, Ye shall worship before this altar in Yerusalom? 18.23 Now therefore, I pray thee, please persuade my lord the king of Assyria, and I will give thee a thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them. 18.24 How can you turn away the face of one of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen? 18.25 Now therefore, O YHVH, I am come up against this place to destroy it. YHVH said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it. 18.26 Then said Aliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Yoah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in Aramaic; for we understand it; and speak not unto us in the language of Yudah in the ears of the people that are in the land. 18.27 And he said unto them, Rabshakeh, your master hath given you drink, and unto you hath my master sent me to speak these things? Has not my master sent me to speak these things to the men which sit in the sun, to eat their fill, and to drink their fill with you? 18.28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the language of Yudah, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. 18.29 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you. for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand. 18.30 And let not Hezekiah make you trust in YHVH, saying, YHVH will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 18.31 Hearken not unto Hezekiah. for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make a covenant with me, and come out unto me, and eat ye every man of his vine, and every man of his fig tree, and drink ye every man the water of his own cistern. 18.32 Until I come and take you to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil, jam, and honey, that you may live and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah, for he misleads you, saying, “YHVH will deliver us.” 18.33 The gods of the nations delivered, each one his land, from the hand of the king of Assyria. 18.34 Who is the Alhym of Hamath and Arpad? Who is the Alhym of Sepharvaim, the one who moved and fled, who has delivered Samaria from my hand? 18.35 Who are they among all the gods of the lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that YHVH should deliver Yerusalom out of my hand? 18.36 And the people held their peace, and answered him not a word. for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not. 18.37 Then Aliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoah the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh. 19.1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of YHVH. 19.2 And he sent Aliakim, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 19.3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy. for the children are come unto the breaking forth, and there is no strength to bring forth. 19.4 It may be that YHVH your Alhym will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living Alhym, and will reprove the words which YHVH your Alhym has heard, and you will raise up a prayer for the remnant that is left. 19.5 And the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah, 19.6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith YHVH, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. 19.7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear a rumor, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. 19.8 And Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah. for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish. 19.9 And when Tirhakah king of Ethiopia heard say, Behold, he is come out to fight with thee. then he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 19.10 Thus shall ye say to Hezekiah king of Yudah, Let not your Alhym in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Yerusalom shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 19.11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by desolation, and you will be saved. 19.12 The gods of the nations, whom my fathers destroyed, delivered you. Gozan, Haran, Rephaim, and the children of Eden who were in Laasher. 19.13 The king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, which is called Naa, and Ivah, 19.14 And Hezekiah took the books from the hand of the messengers, and read them, and went up to the house of YHVH; and Hezekiah spread them before YHVH. 19.15 And Hezekiah prayed before YHVH, and said, O YHVH Alhym of Israal, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the Alhym, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. thou hast made heaven and earth. 19.16 Incline your ear, O YHVH, and hear; open your eyes, O YHVH, and see and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living Alhym. 19.17 Indeed, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands. 19.18 And they shall cast their gods into the fire. for they are no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. and they shall perish. 19.19 Now therefore, O YHVH our Alhym, save us, I pray thee, out of his hand; that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou, O YHVH, art Alhym alone. 19.20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith YHVH Alhym of Israal, Because thou hast prayed unto me to Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard thee. 19.21 This is the word which YHVH hath spoken concerning this. Thou shalt laugh at thee, O virgin daughter of Zion, after thee is the head of the assembly, the daughter of Yerusalom. 19.22 Whom have you reproached and blasphemed, and against whom have you lifted up your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high against the Holy One of Israal? 19.23 By the hand of your angels you have reproached your Lord, and have said, In my chariot I have come up from the height of the mountains, I have gone down from Lebanon, and I have cut down the top of the cedars, from the top of the branches thereof, and I have come to the palm tree from the edge of the forest of Carmel. 19.24 I was cold and drank strange water, and I spent my days in a cup of wine every year of the siege. 19.25 Have you not heard from afar that I made it of old and created it? Now have I brought it forth, and it became like the waves of the sea, hawks awake in trouble. 19.26 And their habitations were cut down and withered, they were the grass of the fiald, and the green herb, the hay for the roofs, and the sedge before the rising. 19.27 And I know your return, and your going out, and your coming in, and your being angry with me. 19.28 Because you were angry with me, and your slander reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips, and turn you back by the way you came. 19.29 And this shall be the sign unto thee. eat this year of the increase, and in the second year of the increase, and in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat of the kine. 19.30 And the remnant of the remnant of the house of Yudah shall take root downward, and bear fruit upward. 19.31 For out of Yerusalom shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion shall they escape. the zeal of YHVH shall do this. 19.32 Therefore thus saith YHVH unto the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with a shiald, nor cast up a mound against it. 19.33 By the way that he came he shall return, and shall not come into this city, saith YHVH. 19.34 And I will defend this city for salvation, for mine own sake, and for the sake of David my servant. 19.35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of YHVH went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred and fourscore and five thousand. and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 19.36 And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and dwelt at Nineveh. 19.37 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Naser his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer smote him with the sword. and they fled into the land of Ararat. and Eser-haddon his son reigned in his stead. 20.1 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death. and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith YHVH, Set thine house in order. for thou shalt die, and not live. 20.2 And he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto YHVH, saying, 20.3 Now therefore, O YHVH, remember how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. 20.4 And it came to pass, that Isaiah had not yet gone out of the city, that the word of YHVH came unto him, saying, 20.5 And thou shalt say again to Hezekiah, Thus saith YHVH Alhym of David thy father; I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears. behold, I will heal thee. on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of YHVH. 20.6 And I will add to your days fifteen years, and I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake. 20.7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs, and put it on the boil, and he shall live. 20.8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that YHVH will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of YHVH the third day? 20.9 And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto thee from YHVH, that YHVH will do the thing which he hath spoken. the shadow shall go forward ten degrees, and return ten degrees. 20.10 And Hezekiah said, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees. but the shadow returneth ten degrees. 20.11 Then Isaiah the prophet called to YHVH, and he brought back the shadow ten steps, which had gone down on the steps of Ahaz. 20.12 At that time Bardech-Baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 20.13 And Hezekiah heard of them, and shewed them all the house of Nechaal, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his vessels, and all that was found in his treasures. there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. 20.14 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, From a far country they are come, even from Babylon. 20.15 And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah said, They have seen all that is in mine house. there is nothing among my treasures that ye have not shewed me. 20.16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of YHVH.” 20.17 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon. there shall be nothing more, saith YHVH. 20.18 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, he shall take away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. 20.19 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of YHVH which you have spoken is good." And he said, "Shall there be peace and truth in my days?" 20.20 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought the water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 20.21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers. and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead. 21.1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Yerusalom. and his mother's name was Hephzibah. 21.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to the abominations of the heathen whom YHVH cast out before the children of Israal. 21.3 And he returned, and built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up an altar unto Baal, and made an grove, as did Ahab king of Israal; and he worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 21.4 And he built an altar in the house of YHVH, of which YHVH said, In Yerusalom will I put my name. 21.5 And he built altars to all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of YHVH. 21.6 And he made his son pass through the fire, and through the fiery furnace, and through the serpent, and practiced many sorcery and sorcery, to do evil in the sight of YHVH, to provoke him to anger. 21.7 And he set the graven image that he had made in the house, of which YHVH said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Yerusalom, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israal, I will put my name for ever. 21.8 And I will not again remove the foot of Israal from the land which I gave to their fathers, if only they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded them. 21.9 But they did not listen, and Manasseh followed the example of the nations whom YHVH had destroyed before the children of Israal. 21.10 And YHVH spake by his servants the prophets, saying, 21.11 For Manasseh king of Yudah did these abominations, worse than all that the Amorites did before him, and he also made Yudah to sin with his idols. 21.12 Therefore thus saith YHVH Alhym of Israal, Behold, I will bring such evil upon Yerusalom and Yudah, that whosoever heareth thereof, both his ears shall tingle. 21.13 And I will stretch over Yerusalom the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab. and I will wipe Yerusalom, as one wipeth a dish, and turneth it over. 21.14 And I will forsake the remnant of mine inheritance, and give them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall be a spoil and a desolation to all their enemies. 21.15 Because they have done evil in my sight, and have been provoked to anger by me, from the day that their fathers came out of Egypt unto this day. 21.16 Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, until he filled Yerusalom from one end to the other, besides his sin which he had committed, by which he made Yudah sin, to do evil in the sight of YHVH. 21.17 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin which he sinned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 21.18 And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. and Amon his son reigned in his stead. 21.19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Yerusalom. His mother was Shelemath, the daughter of Haruz of Yethba. 21.20 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, as his father Manasseh had done. 21.21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked, and served the idols that his father served, and bowed down to them. 21.22 And he forsook YHVH Alhym of his fathers, and walked not in the way of YHVH. 21.23 And the servants of Amon bound him, and slew the king in his own house. 21.24 And the people of the land broke all the bonds against king Amon, and the people of the land made Yosiah his son king in his stead. 21.25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 21.26 And they buried him in his sepulchre in the garden of Uzza. and Yosiah his son reigned in his stead. 22.1 Yosiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Yedidah, the daughter of Adiyah of Edrei. 22.2 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. 22.3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Yosiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Adalah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of YHVH, saying, 22.4 He went up to Hilkiah the high priest and counted out the money that was brought into the house of YHVH, which the keepers of the threshold had gathered of the people. 22.5 And he delivered it into the hand of the workmen, that had the oversight of the house of YHVH. and they gave it to the workmen that did the work in the house of YHVH, to strengthen the walls of the house. 22.6 To carpenters, and to bricklayers, and to hewers of stone, and to buy timber and quarried stone to strengthen the house. 22.7 But the money given by them shall not be reckoned with them. for by faith they do. 22.8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the book, "I have found the book of the law in the house of YHVH." And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. 22.9 Then Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, saying, Let your servants melt down the silver that is found in the house, and deliver it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of YHVH. 22.10 And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. and Shaphan read it before the king. 22.11 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. 22.12 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, 22.13 Go, inquire of YHVH for me, and for the people, and for all Yudah, concerning the words of this book that is found. for great is the wrath of YHVH that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us. 22.14 Then Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shephan, and Asahiah, went to Helda the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; and she dwelt in Yerusalom in the Mishnah; and they communed with her. 22.15 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH Alhym of Israal, Tell the man that sent you unto me, 22.16 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Yudah hath read. 22.17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. and my wrath shall be kindled in this place, and shall not be quenched. 22.18 And to the king of Yudah, who sent you to inquire of YHVH, thus shall ye say unto him, Thus saith YHVH Alhym of Israal, The words which thou hast heard. 22.19 Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before YHVH when you heard what I had spoken against this place and against its inhabitants, that it should become a curse and a desolation, and you tore your clothes and wept before me, I also heard you, says YHVH. 22.20 Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring on this place. And they shall return to the king with a message. 23.1 Then the king sent and gathered to him all the elders of Yudah and Yerusalom. 23.2 And the king went up to the house of YHVH, and all the men of Yudah, and all the inhabitants of Yerusalom with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great. and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of YHVH. 23.3 And the king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before YHVH, to walk after YHVH, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. and all the people stood in the covenant. 23.4 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second degree, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of the temple of YHVH all the vessels that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven, and to burn them without Yerusalom in the brooks of Kidron, and to carry their ashes to Bethel. 23.5 And he put away the priests whom the kings of Yudah had ordained, and they burned incense in the high places in the cities of Yudah and in the plains of Yerusalom, and to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven. 23.6 And he brought out the Asherah from the house of YHVH, outside Yerusalom, to the brook Kidron, and burned it in the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust, and cast the dust upon the graves of the people. 23.7 And he brake down the sanctuaries that were in the house of YHVH, where the women wove houses for a grove. 23.8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Yudah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burnt incense, from Geba even to Beersheba, and brake down the high places of the gates, which opened by the gate of Yoshua the governor of the city, which was by Samual the man at the gate of the city. 23.9 But the priests of the high places shall not come up to the altar of YHVH in Yerusalom, but shall eat unleavened bread among their brethren. 23.10 And he defiled the altar of the children of Hinnom, that no man should make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire unto the king. 23.11 And he took away the horses that the kings of Yudah had given to the sun, from the house of YHVH to the chamber of Nathan the king's eunuch, which was in the dust. and the chariots of the sun he burned with fire. 23.12 And the altars that were on the roof of the house of Ahaz, which the kings of Yudah had made, and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of YHVH, the king broke down, and fled from there, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron. 23.13 And the high places that were before Yerusalom, which were on the right side of the mount of corruption, which Solomon king of Israal had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for their king the abomination of the children of Ammon, the king defiled himself. 23.14 And he broke the pillars, and cut down the asherim, and filled their places with men's bones. 23.15 And the altar that was in the house of Al, the high place which Yeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israal sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, grinding it to powder, and burning the grove. 23.16 And Yosiah turned, and saw the sepulchres that were in the mount. and he sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of YHVH, which the man of Alhym proclaimed, which read these words. 23.17 And he said, What is this sign which I see? And the men of the city said unto him, It is the sepulchre of the man of Alhym, which came from Yudah, and declared these things that thou hast done against the altar of Bethel. 23.18 And he said, Let him alone, let not his hands move. And his hands let the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria be carried away. 23.19 And Yosiah took away all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israal had made to provoke to anger, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel. 23.20 And he sacrificed all the priests of the high places which he had set up upon the altars, and burned human bones upon them, and returned to Yerusalom. 23.21 And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover to YHVH your Alhym, as it is written in this book of the covenant. 23.22 For there was not kept such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israal, nor in all the days of the kings of Israal, nor of the kings of Yudah. 23.23 But in the eighteenth year of king Yosiah this passover was kept unto YHVH in Yerusalom. 23.24 Yosiah also burned the idols, the sorcerers, the teraphim, the idols, and all the idols that were seen in the land of Yudah and in Yerusalom, that he might establish the words of the law that were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of YHVH. 23.25 And before him there was no king like him, who turned to YHVH with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; and after him there arose none like him. 23.26 Nevertheless YHVH turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Yudah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him. 23.27 And YHVH said, I will also cast Yudah out of my sight, as I have cast off Israal, and have abhorred this city which I have chosen, Yerusalom, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there. 23.28 Now the rest of the acts of Yosiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 23.29 In his days Pharaoh Nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates. and king Yosiah went out to meet him, and slew him in Magedo, when he saw him. 23.30 And his servants carried him dead from his place, and brought him to Yerusalom, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Yehoahaz the son of Yosiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead. 23.31 Yehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Yeremiah of Laban. 23.32 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to all that his fathers had done. 23.33 And Pharaoh Nechaal bound him in prison in Rabbah in the land of Hamath, in Yerusalom, and imposed a fine on the land of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 23.34 And Pharaoh Necho made Aliakim the son of Yosiah king in the room of Yosiah his father, and changed his name to Yehoiakim. and he took Yehoahaz, and came to Egypt, and died there. 23.35 And Yehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but he valued the land to give the money according to Pharaoh's estimation. Every man according to his valuation did bring the silver and the gold to the people of the land to give to Pharaoh a cripple. 23.36 Yehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Zebedee, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rome. 23.37 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to all that his fathers had done. 24.1 In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Yehoiakim became his servant three years. Then he rebelled against him. 24.2 And YHVH sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Yudah to destroy it, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake by his servants the prophets. 24.3 But it was according to YHVH's will in Yudah to put away from his sight the sin of Manasseh, according to all that he had done. 24.4 And also the innocent blood that he shed, and filled Yerusalom with innocent blood, and YHVH would not pardon. 24.5 Now the rest of the acts of Yehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yudah? 24.6 And Yehoiakim slept with his fathers; and Yehoiachin his son reigned in his stead. 24.7 And the king of Egypt came no more out of his land. for the king of Babylon had taken all that pertained to the king of Egypt, from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates. 24.8 Yehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Nahashta, the daughter of Alnathan of Yerusalom. 24.9 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to all that his father had done. 24.10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Yerusalom, and the city was besieged. 24.11 Then Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his servants besieged it. 24.12 And Yehoiachin king of Yudah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his eunuchs. and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. 24.13 And he brought forth from thence all the treasures of the house of YHVH, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israal had made in the temple of YHVH, as YHVH had said. 24.14 And he carried away captive all Yerusalom, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives; and all the carpenters and locksmiths remained, except the doorkeepers of the land. 24.15 And he carried away Yehoiachin into exile to Babylon, and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his eunuchs, and the people of the land, from Yerusalom to Babylon. 24.16 And all the men of war were seven thousand, and the carpenters and smiths a thousand, all mighty men of valor, fit for war; and the king of Babylon carried them away captive to Babylon. 24.17 And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah the son of Dedo king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah. 24.18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Yerusalom. His mother's name was Hamital, the daughter of Yeremiah of Laban. 24.19 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to all that Yehoiakim had done. 24.20 For it was against YHVH's anger against Yerusalom and Yudah, until he cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 25.1 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Yerusalom, and encamped against it, and built a siege ramp against it round about. 25.2 And the city was besieged until the twentieth year of king Zedekiah. 25.3 In the ninth month the famine was severe in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land. 25.4 And the city and all the men of war broke out by night by the way of the gate between the Hamathites, which is by the king's garden. and the Chaldeans were against the city round about, and went by the way of the plain. 25.5 And the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Yericho. and all his army was scattered from before him. 25.6 And they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah, and gave him judgment. 25.7 And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters, and brought him to Babylon. 25.8 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, unto Yerusalom. 25.9 And he burned the house of YHVH, and the king's house, and all the houses of Yerusalom, and every great house, with fire. 25.10 And the wall of Yerusalom round about was broken down by the whole army of the Chaldeans, which were many in number, 25.11 And the rest of the people that remained in the city, and the castaways that fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive. 25.12 And from the gate of the land he left many cooks for the vineyards and for the winepresses. 25.13 And the pillars of brass that were in the house of YHVH, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was in the house of YHVH, did the Chaldeans break in pieces, and carried the brass of them to Babylon. 25.14 And they took away the laver, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith they ministered. 25.15 And the censers and the basins, which were of gold, and which were of silver, the chief of the cooks took away. 25.16 The two pillars, the one sea, and the vessels which Solomon made for the house of YHVH, the brass of all these vessels was without weight. 25.17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the capital on it was of brass; and the height of the capital was three cubits, and the network and pomegranates upon the capital round about were of brass. and so for the second pillar, upon the network. 25.18 And the chief of the priests took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold. 25.19 And he took out of the city one eunuch, who was in charge of the men of war, and five men of the king's court that were found in the city, and the scribe, the captain of the host, which had charge of the people of the land, and threescore men of the people of the land that were found in the city. 25.20 And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to Riblah king of Babylon. 25.21 And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew them in Rabbah in the land of Hamath. and Yudah was removed out of his land. 25.22 And as for the people that remained in the land of Yudah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over them. 25.23 And when all the captains of the forces, and the people, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah king, they came to Gedaliah the Mizpahite, and Ishmaal the son of Nethaniah, and Yohanan the son of Korah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhameth the Netophathite, and Yaazaniah the son of Maachathite, they and their men. 25.24 And Gedaliah swore to them and to their men, and said to them, "Do not be afraid of the Chaldeans; live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you." 25.25 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmaal the son of Nethaniah, the son of Alishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah. 25.26 And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces, arose, and came into Egypt. for they were afraid of the Chaldeans. 25.27 And it came to pass in the thirty and seventh year of the captivity of Yehoiachin king of Yudah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty and seventh day of the month, that Aelmordach king of Babylon, in the year of his reign, brought forth the head of Yehoiachin king of Yudah out of prison. 25.28 And he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon. 25.29 And he hated his prison clothes, and did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life. 25.30 And his lodging was a continual provision, a provision given him of the king, a daily provision, all the days of his life.
